Wildlife lovers Tushar and Snehal Pant had not been to a national park in the Northeast. They decided to make a trip to Namdapha National Park since they had read so much about it. The flora and fauna of this region is quite unique from the rest of India.
On the banks of the fast-flowing Brahmaputra is one of India's most isolated tiger reserves. It has a stunning variety of birds and wildlife due to its two different eco-systems: tropical rainforest and Alpine forests that are higher up. Among big cats, you can see the tiger, leopard, clouded leopard and snow leopard. Among the primates are hoolock gibbon, Assamese macaque, pig-tailed macaque, and stump-tailed macaque. You can also see elephants, black bear, Indian Bison, and several species of deers. Some of the spectacular birds are the satyr tragopan, kalij and monal pheasants, giant hornbill, forest eagle owl and the rare white-winged wood duck. You can also enjoy the vast variety of trees and vegetation, including rare orchids.
How to get there: By road from Dibrugarh (140 km, 5 hours) or a full-day drive from Guwahati. The nearest railway stations are Tinsukhia, or Ledo, near Margherita (56 km).
Best time to go: The park is open from Nov-May, the best period to visit is Dec-Mar.
