On their way to Kullu-Manali, Sheela and Mohan stopped overnight at Chandigarh. They drove around the city and saw the sight-seeing spots. This city which is the shared capital of Haryana and Punjab is also a UnionTerritory in its own right. It houses many impressive government and office buildings. It is also a model in town-planning and architecture.
Famous for being one of independent India's first modern cities, with a grid plan and spectacular architecture, Chandigarh was designed by the renowned architect Le Corbusier. It is the gateway to many tourism destinations in Himachal Pradesh.

Capitol Complex - this houses the government buildings of the Secretariat, High Court and the State Assembly.
Sector 17 - this is the swanky shopping area with the good shops and restaurants.
Rose Garden - boasting of over 1000 varieties of roses, this is one of India's best. It is at its peak in February/March.
Rock Garden - this famous alternative garden was designed out of waste by Nek Chand a government official.
SukhnaLake - this is a favourite outing spot where you can enjoy a pleasant evening stroll and a lovely sunset view.
