Since it was February and the famous Surajkund mela was on, Shreyas and her aunt decided to drive across and check it out. Surajkund is a sleepy historical spot near Faridabad, Haryana, where the relics of a reservoir, dedicated to the Sun god can be seen. It was built in the 11th century by the Rajput Tomar king, Surajpal. However, each year it comes alive for two weeks for the famous handicrafts fair.
This destination is almost synonymous with the Surajkund Crafts Mela a government sponsored annual handicrafts fair that attract thousands of shoppers and tourists in the first fortnight of February. Each year a particular state is highlighted and you can get special handicrafts and cuisine from that region. There are many other stalls featuring handicrafts from all the states of India, including works by master craftsmen and award-winning artisans.
