The Sharmas also drove to Hazaribagh and spent a few days there. The pleasant hill-station has a quiet laid-back charm. There are many picnic spots and a small wildlife sanctuary where a day trip can be made.
The laid-back town of Hazaribagh is 107 km from Ranchi. It is surrounded by a small patch of dense tropical deciduous forest, once known for its many tigers. (Hazaribaghafter all means thousand tigers). However, a wildlife enthusiast can now only see the occasional leopard, many types of deer (nilgai, chital, etc), wild boars and several bird species. Hazaribagh makes for a pleasant vacation due to its verdant surroundings and cool climate.
