About 27km from Imphal is the historical town of Bishnupur famous for its 15^th century Bishnu temple at the foot of a scenic hill. The temple has a conical shaped roof, similar to architecture found in the Far East. It has an ancient tradition and is of great significance to the region as it also lends its name one of the major ethnic groups of Manipur, the Bishnupriya Manipuris. This town is also known for its artistic stone sculptures.
