The capital of Nagaland is the historic place where the Japanese were stopped from entering India in the World War II. It is a peaceful town surrounded by mountains on all sides.
WarCemetery - this is where you can see the graves of many Indian and British soldiers who laid down their lives in the war.
Cathedral of Reconciliation - this is a large modern structure built in 1995 partially with Japanese funds as its name suggests, it is a monument dedicated to world peace.
StateMuseum - this little museum has a fascinating collection of Naga jewellery and costumes.
Bara Basti - for a glimpse of actual tribal life, you should drive across to this large Angami village. The ceremonial carved gate and community hall with crossed horns across its roof, the local houses along the crowded alleys, and the tribal people in their colourful costumes, give you the true feeling of Nagaland.
Shopping - most of the handicrafts and garments shops are near the Kohima bus stand. Shop for the red and black Naga shawls (each denoting the design of a specific tribe), colourful shoulder bags and mekhlas (the local women's dress)
Tourism- Nagaland - Nagaland is famous for its rich mosaic of numerous tribes with their rich culture. Agriculture and animal husbandry, including poultry, are the main occupations of the Nagas.
