The Golden Temple of Amritsar city, built in 1577 by Guru Ram Das is the holiest shrine of the Sikhs. It is visited by thousands of pilgrims all round the year, not only Sikhs, but people of all faiths. | |

Highlights:
Darshani Deorhi - this is the gate that leads to the inner sanctum. It has a spectacular silver doorway and carvings of the holy scriptures on the walls.
Amrit Sarovar - this is the holy reservoir where worshippers wash their hands and feet before entering the temple.
Parikrama - the holy walk that encircles the reservoir is a must for pilgrims.
Hari Mandir - this is the golden domed main shrine, where the Guru Granth Sahib resides during the day.
Guru ka langar - the free kitchen where free meals are served to all pilgrims.
Durgiana temple - two kilometers from the Golden Temple is a 16th temple dedicated to Durga.
