This lush green national park is part of the Nilgiri bio-sphere and is separated from the Bandipur National Park (Karnataka) by the Moyar River. It is a 60 km drive from Ooty and the entry gate is at Theppakadu. Along with Bandipur and Nagarhole, Mudumalai forms an important habitat for the Asian elephant. You can see large herds of these magnificent creatures roaming in the forests. The other animals here are Nilgiri tahr, sambar, spotted deer, tiger, leopard and the flying squirrel. The vegetation of the park is dense, with an abundance of teak and rosewood trees.

Nearest station:  Nanjangud or Mysore - taxis and buses available from there.

By road: Take the Mysore-Ooty Highway. KSTDC buses are available from Mysore and Ooty.

When to go: Oct to Apr. The park is closed from May to Sept.
