Tripura Pilgrimage - Udaipur

Mr and Mrs Mohapatra planned to go on a pilgrimage to the famous Tripurasundari temple. While they were there, they would also visit other sight-seeing spots in Tripura.

Udaipur
Tripura

This was the 16th century capital of the Manikya dynasty, founded by Udai Manikya. It is about 55km north of Agartala. You can see a mix of traditional Bengali architecture, as well as Muslim architecture in the ruins here, as the kingdom was invaded by the Moghuls. Highlights:

Tripurasundari temple is one of the country's most important centres of shakti worship, and it is believed that Parvati's right leg fell at this spot during Shiva's tandav nritya. It is built in the shape of a hut, like many of Bengal's temples and overlooks a lake.

Jaganath temple - this temple overlooks the Jagannath dighi, one of the many ornamental lakes built to decorate the capital of the Manikyas. It shows Muslim influences in its architecture.

Moghul Masjid - this is a testimony to the Moghul rule of the eastern state.
