About Goa

Goa

India's smallest state Goa is located on the western coast of the country, adjoining the Arabian Sea, which provides the beach holidays that Goa is internationally famous for. The states of Maharashtra in the north and Karnataka in the south and east surround Goa. Together with the coastal stretches of these states, Goa is part of a larger cultural region known as Konkan. Northern Goa is more populated and urban, while the south is more forested. Beaches apart, rice fields and coconut plantations dominate the landscape. However, tourism is Goa's main industry.

For 450 years Goa was a Portuguese colony until taken over by India in 1961. This heritage is still apparent in the architecture of its churches and old houses, and the culture of its towns, which is very distinct from the rest of India. In the Catholic world Goa is important as the place where St Francis Xavier is buried (in the Basilica de Bom Jesus at Old Goa). Apart from Christmas and New Year celebrations, the 3-day long Goa Carnival (February, Panaji) and the Feast of St Francis (3 Dec, Old Goa) are famous attractions.

From north to south, the Goa coastline is marked by a number of beach towns, with relaxed ambience, seafood and water sports such as wind surfing, water skiing, sailing, water-scooters, and dolphin spotting cruises. The beaches of Calangute and Baga are the most visited while other famous beaches include Arambol, Anjuna, Candolim, Colva and Palolem.

Panaji is the state capital, a city of peaceful walks in the old Portuguese quarters, and cruises on Goa's main river, Mandovi. Nearby is the earlier capital city of Old Goa with its celebrated cathedrals, abandoned in the 19th century due to a persistent epidemic. Margao town is another centre of Portuguese cultural heritage. Ponda stands out for its Hindu temples built between 15th and 18th centuries. The international airport, Dabolim, is 29 km from Panaji. Humid for much of the year, Goa's peak season is November-February, especially Christmas-New Year time, for when advance bookings are essential.

First of all I would like to say about Beach, because there is unlimited fun with paragliding and water bike. In paragliding am sure that you definitely get an awesome feel because you are flying. There is a facility for sports bytes, cars in rental process by submitting our ID proof only. So that we need to go by car.

Very nice place to visit. Beautiful beaches and eating joints. Non veg food especially sea food is the best. Panjim is famous for cashews and feni which can be brought back as gifts for friends and family. Very easily approachable by air and driving distance from Mumbai.

"Mind-blowing Goa!" new review

Best Beaches, Best Food, Happy Living, that how you can say about Goa. Goa gives altogether a different experience in India. More foreigners can been seen than domestic visitors. Nov - Feb is best. Best place who like beaches, enjoy food and drink. Calangute, Aguda, Palolem are some of the best beaches. Enjoy sport rides in the sea, Cruise, Casino, Night Clubs & Shopping. Some of the best Restaurants are Martins Corner, Mickeys, Ritz Classic and Thalasa. Morning beach walk, swimming, eating, drinking, evening beach sunset, local food stalls will keep you enjoying.

"Sea food destination!" new review

  • 6.0/7
  • Posted 4 days ago
One must visit this place if you are a Sea food lover. One can try different sea food dishes at different restaurants across Goa. Another beauty of course is the beaches, with loads of water sports. Kids would love this place not mentioning the temptation it creates in the mind of the parents. It refreshes oneself from the regular hustle bustle of the city life.

"Beach, beat and repeat!" new review

  • 7.0/7

One of the best state in India to do anything. Just go there live your life and forget your all tensions and works. The best part of my trip was scuba, rave party at curlies on Thursday, Dudhsagar trip on my rented thunder bird bike, late night out and come in the morning. Do what ever you want to do in Goa but don't trouble others.. Last but not the least don't forget to go casino.

"Nice place with best hospitality by the people" new review

  • 7.0/7
  • Posted 1 week ago
It was really nice holiday. Worth travelling hundreds of kilometre in my bike. Tourism is generally focused on the coastal areas of Goa by the Arabian sea, with comparatively lesser tourist activity inland. Goans are on top of the list for hospitality and so in 2010, there were more than two million tourists reported to have visited Goa, about 1. 2 million of whom were from abroad. As of 2013 Goa was the destination of choice for Indian and foreign tourists, particularly.
