Darasuram Airavateeswarar temple heritage site
Overview of the destination
The ancient Darasuram Airavateeswarar complex is somewhat like Hampi but smaller, albeit on a much grander scale in terms of art, sculpture, architecture etc. Darasuram is barely 3km away from Kumbakonam just off the Swamimalai road. Apart from the heritage site, it also boasts saree weaving cottage industries.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping
A whole day can be spent enjoying the magnificent Airavateeswarar complex. Engage a guide at the entrance, usually the ASI employees moonlight as guides, and they are quite knowledgeable. The carved panels, sculptures, musical staircase, exquisite elephant and horse staircase, roofs, frescoes and the general ambience are overwhelming.

Activities & things to do
The ancient temple complex is magnificent and highly under rated.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc.
