| Reality Bangalore | 29th April 2006 | | Diplomatic Immunity in New Delhi | Overview of the destination Chanakyapuri in New Delhi is the place where most of the foreign embassies are located; a place you are likely to visit in search of visas. It is also a place where some government bigwigs, the odd-ex maharaja (Dr Karan Singh) and some old-time industrialists (the erstwhile DCM family) live. Chanakyapuri has India's best city roads; drive down Shantipath for motoring nirvana. It also has one of the best public parks I have seen anywhere in the world; Nehru Park, which in winter provides an astonishing setting for a mid-morning stroll.Food, sight-seeing and shopping Wander down the amazing roads of Chanakyapuri and gaze at the beautiful buildings housing various foreign embassies. From sixties-style buildings to modernist masterpieces to purple domed marvels, there is a fair bit of architecture to take in. Another must visit is the lovely Rose garden on Shanti Path. Railway enthusiasts can also visit the Railway museum. Activities & things to do Eat at Fujiya in Malcha Marg. Once-upon-a-time, this restarurant was the place for Chinese and Japanese food. Of course, of late upstarts seem to have displaced Fujiya from this exalted perch. Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc. Get to Delhi and ask any auto or cab to take you to Chanakyapuri. Once there, get off & walk. Avoid doing this between April & July - you will die of heatstroke. The best time is December to February. | |
