Food, sight-seeing and shopping
Local sightseeing is best done on your own, at a slow pace but before taking inputs from the place where you stay. Local markets offer a variety of pickles, sauces, cakes(the rich plum variety) and mango preparations which are simply yummy. There arent too many shopping options for people travelling from metros, except handicraft items.

Activities & things to do
there are a range of activities for various age groups from children to adults ; simple speed boat rides to the more adventurous banana rides, surfing etc. Its best to negotiate with the numerous boat operators and water sports shops locally and fix a time for a visit to the sea. A trip down the River Sal for fishing, boating or bird-watching would be a quiet way to spend your time with nature.

goa is hot in summer so carry light clothing, casual wear would do. the locals are very friendly and guide you well. people help out very accurately with directions for any resort or destination if you are driving down.
