Goa - an eye-opener
Overview of the destination
Goa as a Destination is full of surprises, both pleasant & no-so-pleasant. I have tried to give a fair mix here of both. Hotels are excellent. Food is good.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping
Vegetarian food is generally good in Restaurants, provided you can put up with the sight of assorted giant lobsters, crabs & other sea-food, as Goa is a coastal place. If in main city, you can get access even to standard Pizza joints such as Dominos Pizza, standard eatery's such as Delhi Durbar (food is good here), & such other multi-cuisine/thali restaurants at the main markets. Goa is famous for it's beaches & beach activities & the Mandovi river cruise where there is music and beer for an hour or so. The flea market is 'not-to-be-missed', but make sure it's on, before you go there (Anjuna beach) as it's held only on certain days of the week, depending on the season.

Activities & things to do
Para-sailing (best avoided, for reasons see below), boating, swimming, Mandovi River cruise, even Gambling at the Ship anchored offshore (something new!) The chikkis, the kaju-feni is also quite popular for shopping for your friends back home/at the office. Alcohol is real cheap here, so enjoy it while you can!

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc.
Local traveling in Goa is expensive. You can go there in planes, buses/cars & even trains now. If you know how to ride a motorcycle, then that is the cheapest, fastest & preferred mode of travel inside Goa, as mobikes are freely available on hire. Be warned. My wife & her friend, both fell into the sea water while para-sailing, as the boat pulling the parachute ran out of fuel in deep water. There were no life guards/doctors/life-saving equipment, etc on the beach, though they did have life-jackets on. Finally, they were miraculously alive when brought on the beach after 30 mins, but in a horrific condition, raced to the ICU.
