| Soumitro Kolkata | 30th June 2012 | | Heaven on Earth | Overview of the destination Really the most beautiful place so far India is concern, Katra(55 kms. from Jammu town) a famous place for the Vaishno Devi Shrine, a place worth to visit, a nice town, varieties of vegetable foods, good hotels of moderate budgets is a good start for the tour. From there moving to Srinagar, the capital of Kashmir, will take a whole day of 10 hours but the beauty of the journey, well maintained broad road under the Indian Military Force will not make one tired after reaching there. Good hotels are there to stay with all types of budget and staying in a house boat will be the experience of a lifetime. From Srinagar there are so many places to see, the beauty of Himalayas (no place in India can be compared with Kashmir)and Dal Lake can't be expressed by words and only a person who will visit once will be able to experience and express.Food, sight-seeing and shopping Good Muslim cuisine will be available in good quality restaurants and hotels. Also Chinese and Indian foods are also served. Main attraction here is Gulmarg(from there to Khilanmarg by ropeway) which is 50 kms. from Srinagar, along with Sonemarg, Shankaracharya Temple, KhirBhawani Temple, Chasma Shahi, Nishad Bag, Shalimar Bag, Hazratbal Dargah, Flower Garden, Charchinar and Shikara ride on Dal lake is worth a visit.
Pahalgam (narrow and romantic lidder river is flowing throughout the valley)which is situated almost 100 kms. from Srinagar, is another place to stay for 2 nights and not to be missed, which is also the starting point of 'Amarnath Yatra,. At least 10-12 days needed for this tour to enjoy thoroughly.
Kashmir is famous for Kesar,Cashew,Apple,Apricot, linen and also delicate minakari-hand weaving work on carpet should definitely be there for the shopping according to the budget. Activities & things to do Sledge ride, skiing(skilled people will be able to) in Gulmarg, ropeway ride to Khilanmarg, shikara ride and water-skiing in Dal lake, horse riding in Sonemarg and Pahalgam are the main activities and so far I am concern, photography should be the main thing to do because where ever you will see the beauty of nature will galore. Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc. Good woolen in winter is needed, not to ill-behave with the local people.
Reaching there by train from all over India to Jammu and then by rented vehicle or bus to Katra and Srinagar. Rail tracks will be open to Katra within a short span of time. Airports are there in Jammu and Srinagar also. | |
