Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonmarg & Srinagar are covered by most tourists. The offbeat destinations are Wular Lake (via Sopore), Manasbal Lake and the Khir Bhavani Temple. These destinations can be covered from Srinagar as a day trip. Another great destination is the valley of Yusmarg. Kashmiri cuisine is basically mutton in every thinkable variety: try the Rishta!! Activities & things to do
One should visit Kashmir in late April if you want to see the snow clad peaks. A different Kashmir can be experienced in October, when apples are abundant and the chinar trees bear the autumn colour.

For the elderly it is best to take the Delhi Srinagar flight. Be prepared for several security checks at Srinagar airport especially when departing For the youth, take the Jammu Srinagar highway (8 hours) night halt at Patnitop if you like.
