| florien Bangalore | 17th February 2007 | | Jawhar - tribal hill (station?) in Thane dist | Overview of the destination Different. Best during or just after the monsoons. This is strictly for nature lovers without fancy expectations. The State Govt could do a lot to enhance Jawhars potential as a tourist destination.Food, sight-seeing and shopping Kavdas lake 6km after Charoti on the way to Jawhar, ringed by mountains. Further down is the bigger Dhamani dam. Stop anywhere, cut through the forests and enjoy the peace, wildflowers, butterflies and birds. Just before Jawhar is a deep rift valley on the right side. A gentle valley is on the left side. These are better Sunrise and Sunset points than the garbage strewn Sunset point in the city. The Raja's palace cashew orchards are worth walking through. The old wooden ruined palace is also worth seeing. A small lake just 4km outside Jawhar on the Silvassa Rd is nice to walk around. Go further 20km to Dhabosa falls - truly spectacular reminds one of Blue Lagoon. Bad roads. Activities & things to do Rambling through the valleys and plateaus outside Jawhar is rewarding for butterfly and wildflower lovers. The town is strewn with garbage so its much better to go outside the town limits. The whole area could be re-forested and cleaned up. Climate - pleasant due to elevation 600m. Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc. From Mumbai by road go via NH8 to Charoti phata - right turn about 40km till Jawhar. Or NH3 to Bhiwandi phata, left to just after Wada (Malhar vill.) and left again about 19km through to Jawhar. Simple meals available at restaurants near busstand. Hotel Pushpanjali or Govt. Guest House are the only quiet, decent hotel but no meals. | |
