| Ravi Gurgaon | 18th February 2007 | | From Turmoil to Tranquility--Destination Pondicherry | Overview of the destination In this age of hectic pace of life, killing deadlines and razor-edge competition, Pondicherry offers an oasis of serene tranquility. Easy to reach, offering all amenities to which we have got used to, it still carries an ambience that makes you realise that life is more than glitter and that there can be pursuits other than for material acquisitions.Food, sight-seeing and shopping The main attraction in Pondicherry is, of course, the Ashram founded by the great Yogi and spiritual Master, Sri Aurobindo, who was later joined by the Mother. Then there is Auroville, a unique experiment in global community living, where spiritual seekers from all over the world have settled down. Auroville is a haven of living in accordance with man's Divine aspirations. The city of Pondicherry offers beautiful promenades for walks (you must take comfortable walking shoes). And dont forget to buy excellent agarbattis, scented candles and herbal cosmetics all made by the Ashramites! Activities & things to do The main centre of activities is the Ashram, where you have daily Sadhna and meditation. A visit to the Ashram school is very informative, as you realise how wonderfully children develop when their natural talents are allowed to blossom. Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc. Pondicherry is easy to reach, the most convenient way being to reach Chennai and then take a two-an-half hr road journey(excellent roads!). I must, however, add that Pondicherry is not for those who are seeking glitter and glamour, fun and frolic in their trip. If, however, you believe that there is something more to life than pursuit of mundane comforts, then do visit it. And then you will want to visit it again, and yet again! | |
