Pondicherry is a funny mixture - on one hand it has all the hallmarks of small town Tamil Nadu including the ubiquitous smells of Jasmine & hot sambar and the desperately bright sun. On the other hand there are a few avenues with French names lined with mediterranenean style walled-villas and policeman with caps like French gendarmes. Fascinating - wish the sun would take a break though.Food, sight-seeing and shopping
Did not find much to do by way of either sight-seeing or shopping in Pondicherry. Drove around a bit and visited one or two hotels along the coast. Activities & things to do
None. But, if you are an urban Indian yuppie in search of Salvation this is probably one of the more promising locations in the country. The international commune at Auroville in Pondicherry offers a 'modern' back-to-basics approach with the right amounts of subtle exclusivity to entice many. Once again, wish the sun would take a break though! Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc.
