Pondicherry has a distinct French half and an Indian half. It has been marketed well, especially given that there is not much really there! Unless you are really focussed on visiting the Sri Aurobindo Ashram or Auroville, both are NOT tourist spots. Of course, the cheap liquor seems to be an incentive for many. No great beaches, scenic spots, or fun things to do really. Food, sight-seeing and shopping
We ate at Le Club, Auroville Visitor's Center Eatery and at Zest Pondicherry. All were very mediocre. The one most annoying thing is that a simple fresh line soda is made without sugar syrup..so by the time you try and stir the sugar, you need another drink. Activities & things to do
The hand made paper factory was educational. Pottery, incense, hi design (leather products) and handmade paper products seem to be the specialty here....most of which is available in metros anyway. Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc.
The roads from Krishnagiri to Tindivanam are very bad. Use the Chennai Highway, take a deviation at Kanchipuram and head to Tindivanam. Please carry at least 5 nos Rs. 5 coins for the Toll Booths. It makes everyone's life easier. |
