Overview of the destination This globe trotter has just returned absolutely besotted with tranquillity & activities, Narlai?s variety galore!
So drawn I was to this fine tapestry of mountains, monuments and masterpieces which I sensed some three years ago and activated ASI for excavations and documentation and I found myself creating work here to keep returning, also to participate and give something back of what has been given to me! I feel most connected to this place and thus commissioned renovation of our ancestor?s ?Haveli?, that could offer stiff competition to ?Rawla Narlai? in that it epitomizes a complete royal heritage experience!
IT EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS IN EVERY RESPECT.Food, sight-seeing and shopping A guest house where homely food is virtually free, inputs from its own farm. Rawala offers continental etc but at their outdoor; Ambavav, they organize gala dinner under flaming torch with folk dances/music and horse show. It is documented that two of 30 odd temples, architectural marvels were brought through air routes by Yeties? mantras in year 964 AD. On recent visit, glimpsed yet another ?Khajuraho? atop a hillock (Shantinath Jain temple); on ?SONANA- AARAS- STONE?; available only in this area- I felt the joy of creation that would have been experienced by master sculptor?s centuries ago! Must-buy: honey in hillocks. Activities & things to do Ride on wild side of life; a horse safari to Ghanerao-castle, Kumbhalgarh, take elephant/camel ride. Climb rocks to jackal (elephant) hill, you can slide down 700 meters on a stone from top, right down thru its ?Bhavar gini?- natural cave came into being with huge cover of rock. Shatrunjaya and Girnar hillocks may put you on divine highway where all religious paths meet; they bring you closer to spirit- Utopia does exist!
Dip in several cool water pools, bird watching. Check out local craftsmen, hunt for antiques, absorb the enduring charm & traditions that characterize village, soak in culture of local tribes, wilderness. Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc. Narlai is mid-way between Jodhpur and Udaipur, known to be on tourist triangle. Nearest airport Udaipur (160kms) while 30kms is railway station Rani and almost the same distance is Falna. Forty minutes by car to the south of Narlai, are the ancient Ranakpur temples and to the east is the greatest fort of the region, Kumbhalgarh. To the north is well preserved wildlife reserve.
Stretch stay for minimum 5to 6 days anything less than that would be an injustice, summer is harsh. While going around village, sanitation works is on but till then beware of mosquitoes. |
