| Bren Mumbai | 13th September 2008 | | | 'mazing Sikkim!!! | Overview of the destinationSikkim is a place that one should definitely visit. Definitely not for the uptown and modern amenities loving person, but for a break from your hectic schedules of life. We were four good friends who made this trip in the december of 2007 and it's one trip that none will forget for the sheer experience that Sikkim offered. Food, sight-seeing and shopping No big restaurants or shopping mall or high tech hotels - but stuff that you'll love doing. Our base was Gangtok which offered the local shopping, food and other gear to keep us interested. Most of our time was spent in the north of Sikkim - chilling cold (each of us wore no less than 6 layers of clothing), village kinda food (at most times veg, which was a big killer for me), and driving all along the edge of drops and steep mountain slopes. The yak meat from the locals was amazing and so was some type of home made wine. We touched around 18k feet, walk on ice, experience mountains dressed in ice and kept a close watch on the Testa (the river that flows right thru Sikkim). With over a 1000 pictures and various videos within 5 days - you can imagine that every view was worth capturing... Activities & things to do Visit some monastaries, drive up north, drink some cherry brandy, get some rafting done (in a warmer season though). Don't miss reach zero point or seeing the yaks.
Lot's more to do - connect with me if you want specifics... Or the net has a lot to offer! Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc. The route we used - Mumbai to Kolkata to Siliguri to Gangtok... Pretty much the usual route one would take if going from Mumbai. | |
