Rishikesh is a good starting point for treks to Himalayan pilgrimage centres such as Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. It is rightly called the gateway to the Himalayan shrines of these places.
Situated 24kms upstream from Hardwar, at the confluence of the Chandrabhaga and Ganga, Rishikesh has long been a spiritual centre. Rishikesh is located at the height of 1360 feet above sea level.
Tapovan on the other bank of Ganges houses a temple to the Laxmana. The Laxman Jhula, a 450 feet long suspension bridge was built in 1939. A newer bridge Ram Jhula has been added recently.Food, sight-seeing and shopping
There is no shopping here. Sight seeing is good as far as Laxman Jhula - Ram Jhula, Geeta Mandir and other religious places are concerned. There is also an ashram with lot of carvings to be seen. Activities & things to do
