| Anita Mumbai | 3rd February 2011 | | hmmm... read on | Overview of the destination The temples in this state are architectural marvels. I soaked up all this beauty with my eyes. Couldn't get enough. Each one has its own story to tell and captivates the traveller with its bright colours, intricately sculptured figurines on its gopurams.Food, sight-seeing and shopping Do not miss the bus rides in chennai as they are so well organised, no waiting time, cheap and comfortable travel. Only problem is language, making them understand what you want and in turn trying understand wat they say gets a little tiresome. Do not miss to taste the prasadams available in the temple (yum). Collect them for further travel snacking too. Activities & things to do Other than visiting the various temples and revelling in their beauty there isnt much to do in the part of tamil nadu that i went which is chennai, madurai, rameswaram. At rameswaram on can collect some water from the agnikund (which is the open sea and that too if you r hindu and believe in such things) to later sprinkle it in ur house or business places for purification.
Try not to take packages offered by private travels as they are not giving good service. Go around by yourself or take state tourism service. Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc. I went by train from bombay and it took 24hrs to reach chennai and from their onwards to madurai i went by road (approx. 9hrs). At madurai our hotel manager arranged for us to go by a mini bus to and from rameswaram (service wasnt that great). It wud hav been better if we went by bus from bus station and on reaching rameswaram buked auto for approx 150/- to 200/- and roamed around there.
I hope my info is of use to anyone who wishes to go to tamilnadu. Actually there are a lot more places to see there like kanchipuram, mahabaleshwaram, ooty, kodai, kanyakumari etc. I might go again and cover up these places.
Have a nice holiday everyone. | |
