"Heaven on Earth"

  • Posted Mar 29, 2007
For any human of any age a heavenly destination on the foothills of the Himalayas. The snow peaks are just a few yards away. In a degree of fresh pure air, staying in tents without heaters is an experience by itself. That is what SANGLA Valley is all about. A seven hour road journey from Shimla through and through the mountains into the mouth of the breathtaking valley is an exotic experience of lifetime.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Highlight is the simplicity of the locals and their warm welcome. This place is for sheer unwinding from our stressful routine. Once we are there we can only carry home the beauty of this place in our heart and cherish it forever. The locals go out of the way to make your stay a comfort, arranging even bonfires for the chilled evenings. To cut things short as said before, its heaven on earth.

Activities & things to do: There is nothing to shop for. The main attraction is trekking down the mountains towards the rivers flowing down from Himalayas. There is also a naturally formed ice shiv-ling for religious people to look forward. Food too is simple but would definitely advise to carry loads of water with us for drinking purpose.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Option one -Mumbai-Delhi/Shimla- By Road seven hours to Sangla.

Option two - Mumbai-Delhi/Manali - By road five hours to Sangla.

Warnings - Narrow roads, Drive carefully. Try and reach before dark.

"visit to Timber Trail"

  • Posted Feb 17, 2007
An excellent location to visit. Gives real adventure and thrill especially when travelling in the cabin across the hill. Reaching the end is a real thrill and the facilities at the hill top hotel are really exciting. A good site for honeymooners.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: It is more of a sightseeing place with no good attractions for shopping. Catering is expensive.

Activities & things to do: Be well protected. Enjoy the hill surroundings.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Travel by road from Chandigarh to Timber Trail by road, own car, bus, Taxi. Come to Chandigarh by Bus, Train or Air.

"Renukaji : a unspoiled Heavenly Destination"

  • Posted May 31, 2006
Renukaji Is near Nahan in Himachal Pradesh. Its a sacred lake named after Mother of God Parshuram, Renukaji.
The lake is quite calm and its a Wildlife area. Around lake leving the path is all wildlife.
In lake there are thousands of fishes to which the traveler can feed small pieces of flour. Also there are big torturoises in lake, a traveller can see and enjoy.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: I love sight-seeing where there is tranquality, peace and no commercialization. Shopping for local things that are hard to get in a developed city.

Activities & things to do: Activities are destination specific. Sometimes a quiet walk can be an activitiy, Sometimes exploring nearby places can be an activity and sometimes having local cusine at basic restaurant is activity to me.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Refer Air, rail and road guides and use net for availability; ask locals when there. Avoid unknown agents.

"Nice location but worth the all the travel?"

  • Posted May 30, 2006
We spent in all 9 days in Himachal, 5 in Manali and 4 in Shimla. Our most surviving memories I think will be the lo...ng road distances we had to cover travelling from Delhi to Manali (600 km), then Manali to Shimla and finally Shimla to Delhi. To add to this, we flew to and fro Delhi from Mumbai (where we live) although the journeys by flights seemed fine. Manali is good, Shimla is barely okay, but the road journeys are a challenge.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: Manali offers great views of the mountains and the clean, crisp air along with pine trees was the highlight (and the key reason to travel all this distance). The Roerich art gallery was a great experience. Shimla is a real tourist trap and can be easily avoided. Not much shopping in either cities excepts tacky curious.

Activities & things to do: River rafting near Manali (actually near Kulu) is worth the experience if you reasonably fit. Both Manali and Shimla offer scenic drives around the cities - to Solang in case of Manali and Chail in case of Shimla.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Getting to Manali is a real challenge. The closest major airport is Chandigarh from where Manali is about 8 hours drive, mostly on ghats (actually no need to fly to Chandigarh as the Delhi - Chandigarh highway is very good). Be prepared to motion sickness especially for kids.

"Beas Kund- A trekking heaven in himalayas"

  • Posted Apr 26, 2006
This is most scenic place in himalayas as you can trek with ease and then choose to climb high to explore higher slopes and snow laden routes of himalayan peaks.

Food, sight-seeing and shopping: I love this !!

Activities & things to do: I have done high trekking and camping besides climbing in this valley.

Travel tips, How to reach, travel warnings etc: Travel to Manali-SOLANG VALLEY is further 18 kms from here. Hire taxi and reach SOLANG VALLEY. Look for a good hotel but better get advance booking. You have to find porters/ponies and mountain guide to reach BEAS KUND. Make sure that you carry TENTS,SLEEPING BAGS and ground mattresses.
