If you want to run for a cause, now is the time to do it. "Sunfeast World 10k Bangalore" 2009, the richest 10k race worldwide, is scheduled for a May 25 start. Long distance running events in India are organized to raise funds for NGOs and to support various causes. Last year, as many as 36 NGOs used the "Sunfeast World 10K Bangalore 2008" platform to jointly raise a sum of around Rs. 42 lakhs for a wide range of causes. Bangalore-based NGO, "Bangalore Cares” is once again the Official Charity Partner to Procam International, who stages the event. The stakes are even more this time, with 61 NGOs already having registered with the event. So hurry; contribute your two-cents now.
The event, which will see a whopping $150,000 as prize money, will have six races including the World Elite 10k for men and women, wheelchair event (4 km), senior citizens’ run (4 km), and Majja run (5.7 km). The race will provide ideal opportunity to both the amateur and serious runners to test their level of endurance. As for the prize, Elite Men and Women Winners can win USD 21,000 each, Winners of Nation will win Rs. 4.50 lakhs and Indian Runners will win a separate package of Rs. 50, 000. There are also other monetary rewards on offer.
You can register online by visiting the official website of this race. However, registration forms from various other places are also available from March 28 itself - like The Windsor Bengaluru, the Manipal Cure & Careretail outlets, Standard Chartered Bank branches, Nike and Planet M outlets in Bangalore. The entry fee is fixed at Rs. 100 for all the events except the Elite 10K, for which the entry fee is Rs. 200.
To make the whole event interesting lots of exciting things and activities are waiting to be grabbed. For example, “Your race day photos” offered by Marathon-Photos.com, the official Photographer of this year’s event, will capture the photograph of your running moment. If you have the “timing chip” attached to your feet then you will get a chance to obtain a photograph with your race-finish timing! Incidentally, “timing chip” is a device to record your race-timing from start to finish, which you have to tie-up just before the commencement of the race. Timing certificates are also to be provided to participants who manage to finish the run before 11 a.m. There are 25 early bird prizes on offer too; if you are among the first 25 signees for the event, then you stand a chance to win exclusive Event Haversacks.
In case, you have plans to spend some days in Bangalore for the event, then there are lots of other attractions and sightseeing places in store for you. In fact, most visitors call the city as "Shopper's Paradise"! Unlike other places in India, the city of Bangalore will definitely offer you a cooler weather to experience this summer. So, why not take this opportunity to run for a cause and at the same time check out the activities in “Garden City of India”?
