The best way to upload a picture |
| |
When you are uploading a destination photograph in a site like HolidayIQ, remember some simple things. Check out the destination you are uploading in. Always, give a good caption to your photo. It should be something like “Scenic view of the Kovalam Beach, Kerala”. For hotel photographs however, the photos will have different caption. Some examples: "Interior view of the room", "view of the corridor", "swimming pool view from the terrace", etc.
If you are uploading in HolidayIQ then remember that the default number of pictures you can add is 3. However, just below the third upload box there is a link to add more photographs. So, do use it in case you have more than 3 photographs to share. |

When you are shooting a video |
| |
Show the destination as much as possible. If you are shooting a beach video then capture the 360 degree view of the beach. |
| |
If possible, minimize the background noise. You can add music to it, but the background score should be relevant. However, do not use songs; they will turn your video into a “marriage-video”! |
| |
Maintain your balance when shooting. Stay at one place and try to focus properly on the subject. This is where a tripod comes in handy. You won't get any shake if you put the camera on the tripod and shoot. |

Pick a good subject |
| |
I always try to pick up an interesting topic, which I feel you should also do to retain your viewer's interest. The subject can be related to all aspects of travel like road trips, destinations, accommodations, guided tours, adventure sports, etc. But, please give a proper description and tag the video; for e.g. “Scenic Beauty of Nandi Hills, Bangalore”. To tag the above video put something like: “Mountain, Nandi Hills, Bangalore, and Scenery”.
Incidentally, tagging a photo or a video is very important. Generally, tags are used to describe the content. If you consider the abovementioned example, then “mountain, Nandi Hills, Bangalore, and scenery” will help you in explaining the content of your photo / video to other users.
But, remember something – do not overuse the tags. Too many tags can kill the essence of your photo or video! |

Where to share? |
| |
| |
OK, now you have some pictures and videos to share. But, what are the good sites where you can upload them? If you feel that your works are as good as an "serious amateur" photographer then upload them in a photography site; however, if you feel that they are good but not that good then you can upload them in the popular networking sites.
If you have pictures related to travel then put them on HolidayIQ or in your own blog. |

Travel is my passion and photography my preciously nurtured hobby. After going through a steep learning curve I figured out that there are a few steps that you can take to differentiate yourself from the crowd. If you remember fundamental things like subject, composition, and light while taking the snaps then all your creations will definitely stand out from the rest. Nevertheless, to compete with the best you need practise and hard work! Here, I will share a few of my observations with my fellow travel lovers. |
| |
| |
Where do I start? |
| |
First take a note of these points.
i) What kind of trip are you going to? The reason to ask this question is to estimate the amount of time you can keep aside for photography. If it is a leisure trip then surely there would be ample time for photo shoots.
ii) Do you need a Point & Shoot camera (P&S)? For starters, you can use the P&S cameras; but once you become comfortable with photography, go for SLR / DSLR cameras (beware good cameras are costly!).
iii) Should you carry a serious camera? Usually, I carry at least two cameras with me. One P&S and another more sophisticated and serious one.
iv) I always carry a Tripod; it helps me to minimize the shakes and shoot professional quality snaps.

My views on travel photography |
| |
i) Take several pictures of the locations you like the most.
ii) If you are taking snap of a temple or a landmark try to cover it from the best possible angles and take as many pictures as possible. This will help you to discard the "not-so-good-ones" later.
iii) Try not to share pictures showing your loved ones. If you do, then give prominence to the location or the landmark.
iv) Use a camera that supports good resolution; for e.g.: 1600 x 1200 pixels and above.
