We had been to Sikkim for a family vacation, and we stayed at Borong for three days. We had found the hotel through a travelogue, and then on the internet, and booked it through an agent in Kolkata quite easily. We had been told that there are cottages and we would have one small and one family cottage for the seven of us. The cottages turned out to be beautiful wooden ones set apart from each other on the slope, surrounded by a partly groomed and partly wild garden. And when the sky cleared early in the morning, we were totally bowled over by the view of the himalayas. Every morning we were up at 4 am, waiting to catch the first glimpse of the majestic peaks, and we were well rewarded! The show there is basically run by two young men from Kolkata, and they were very nice. They were ready to help with the luggage, serve hot food at the cottage in the middle of pouring rain, provide candles and extra blankets, and never grumbled. This is definitely one of the places I would like to go back to again. More » « Hide

We were a group of six, and we wanted an economy accommodation. The person at the desk suggested that we take their dorm of 8. On reaching the hotel at 5:30 am, we were told that the dorm is actually in a different place, called Gateway cafeteria. We had to wait for an hour to get this cleared, as no manager was available. However, the manager was very helpful, and he arranged for a car to shift us to the other place. But the rooms were really lousy. More » « Hide
