The tour started at 7:15 in the morning. At around 10:45 we reached our first stop Sravanabelgola. Its a long hike up the hill and tiring to the bone. We took about 25 mins to get up the 680 odd steps, but once you reach the top the view is breathtaking. Also the 58ft monolithic statue of Lord Gomateshwara or Mahavir is beautiful. Coming back down takes a toll on your knees but its completely worth it. After 2 hours we reached Belur. The Chennakesava temple is extremely beautiful. the carvings on the temple are extremely intricate. The temple was built by the Hoysala dynasty kings as a memoir of their win over Chola kings. The temple inside is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Guides are avaialbe here for 15 Rs/person. Next destination was Halebid. It has similar architecture as Belur but some parts of the temple were never completed. This temple is supported by the archealogical society of india. This temple has two beautiful huge Nandi's. At every destination. the tour guys give you one hour to see it and come back. All in all it was a wonderful and enriching experience. More » « Hide

It feels like paradise on earth. You actually land in kullu since thats the closest airport. From Kulu you can take a taxi to Manali . Try to take a taxi from the pre-paid taxi stand. most of the rates are standardized. There are also some buses that ply from Kulu to Manali. I was very excited to see the beautiful mountains and breathe the fresh mountain air but little did i know that i was about to have a big dissappointment. Ankit palace looks like a really really old hotel and the services provided arent enought. The pictures on their website are very misleading. When we entered the room we were greeted by tattered blankets and bed sheets with holes.... When we complained to the reception and asked them to give our money back they refused to do so on the basis that we had made an internet booking and that they cant give us a refund. Ultimately they gave us some amount after taking the charge for 4 nights where as we lived there only for 1 and a half. so bad service over all. Details about the destination: Manali is a beautiful place. You can walk in to the Hamahal pradesh taxi union office in manali and get a tour. The drover will take you around and the best part is he doesnot ask you for any thing extra so no haggling. If you are shopping on Mall road remember to bargain. Last but not the least , in case you are flying to Manali then make sure to break the jouney at delhi . This is because flight from manali get cancelled very frequently due to the fog and it takes one day to reach Delhi by a taxi from where you can fly to your destination. More » « Hide
