We had to go to Pune thereafter, so Matheran seemed a logical stop. “You people have come all the way from Delhi to see Matheran in this heat?” asked our taxi driver. He had a point. Matheran is not a place to visit in summer sun. Yet, we loved it. The place is tiny (small is a big word) but filled with the love and warmth of its hospitable people, most of who are there only to earn a living. Matheran is a place that respects nature, tourism and simplicity. There is nothing fancy about it, yet it holds an attraction that calls out to one and all. More » « Hide

When i looked at the hotel from outside, i would have not even wanted to step in because it gave a dingy shady look. The first room shown to us was unkempt and we almost walked out. \'There is one room in the basement that you might like\' and they were spot on here. It was a room so tastefully done, that one could hardly believe it is in the same hotel. A four bedded semi-suite furnished with a large split air conditioner, a 40 inch LCD, curtained partition, full view and half view mirrors, ample storage space, wooden interiors, designer lighting and comfortable bedding. The bathroom was not as appealing as the room, but manageable, its biggest flaw being its small size. The reception desk was not pleasant, we did not have a good experience with them. The rest of the staff was decent. More » « Hide

Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu

“22 times?!” I asked. “Yes that’s the number of times we’ll bathe in the Rameshwaram temple”,..... “22 times?!” I asked. “Yes that’s the number of times we’ll bathe in the Rameshwaram temple”, said a friend (one among our group of twenty). From that time till we reached Rameshwaram I was only wondering about how I’ll get past twenty two wells. All of them said “Don’t be silly…you’ll love it”. “Nice lollipop”, I thought to myself. ‘You’ll love it’ was probably an understatement. It was magic! It was holy! It was something I had never experienced before nor could have imagined it. I remembered someone had once told me that prime places of worship have a distinct energy level. Here, one can feel it. Absorb it. Soak in it. The sea embraces. The Temple captivates. The people endear. The place truly greets one with smiling open arms and fills one with unspoken warmth. More » « Hide

It was as one would have expected in terms of immaculate professionalism and exceeded expectations in terms of warmth and cooperation. This place is true to its name and purpose. It does give the feel of a residence rather than a hotel. Offers the comfort of home and service quality of a good hotel. I checked four rooms (the only available ones) to decide which one suited me most and altered my choice three times. It\'s one thing to say that its their job to bear guest tantrums and another one to experience it. Their unfailing pleasantness while i was making life hell for them in choosing the room, accommodating my difficult food preferences and doing everything in their power to regard my convenience speaks volumes about their sincerity to hospitality.
