We had booked for a 2 night stay in november but could not make it due to ill health.Thinking that we would lose 50% of the amt paid,we informed the staff about our cancellation. But we were in for a surprise when we were told that they could retain our amt for the same room for a near future trip.We gave a tentative jan-feb plan to which the hotel agreed and so we could make the trip during the republic day weekend in Jan without any problem. Do not book yourself into any hotel near the rly stn as it is useless and extremely crowded.Instead Le Golden offers proximity to the temple,Jalianwala bagh, the famous Bhrawan da dhaba and various lanes and bylanes of the old city which house shops selling clothes,bangles,papad-wadis etc... Being close to the Golden Temple is a great advantage of this place. One can visit the temple many times. The hotel and the approach road is congested but this is the way it is in the old town of Amritsar.People, cattle, vehicles, shops, eateries all over, pretty much like our very own chandni chowk. We stayed in a comfort room which is just enough for a couple.Other category rooms are bigger in size.It was cold outside but warm inside the room. The bathroom was pretty decent in size and comfort. Their restaurant is on the terrace which provides a view of the Golden Temple. We did order simple food like soups and sandwiches for dinner after gorging on the rich Amritsari khana throughout the day.The food was light yet very tasty. Overall the perfect stay in Amritsar. My husband and I were in Mysore for the new year and enjoyed a relaxed break. The nights were pleasant but the sun shone hard during the day.The city is so small that we ran into the same auto fellows again and again all over the city during our 3 day stay, but there are some hidden gems of which I have listed a few. Extremely glad to have stayed in Ginger.Right from the booking process on the net and over the phone, where the help desk provides you with complete details to our experience in Ginger, everything was worth.I must add here that the virtual room tour on the net is too good. Ginger is located 3-4 kms away from the rly stn in Nazarbad extn area which is perfect for people who wish to stay in peace, yet not too far from the city.Taxi from rly stn to Ginger costs 100 rs.Ginger has a lovely feel to it which will suit single/couple/families,corporates,students all alike. We stayed in their orange room which was spacious, well lit and ventilated, suitable for a couple. The flat screen TV on the wall, the small wardrobe, the writing table all bring out their maximum utility of space. Bath area was neat and clean with all amenities provided. The door tags of \'do not disturb\',\'please clean my room\',\'please don\'t clean my room\' fulfill the purpose.Small posters on the bathroom door regarding water usage and towel wash are very thoughtful indeed. Good laundry service, great buffets for bkfst, lunch, dinner and cafe coffee day deserve praise. Ginger also celebrated NEW YEAR with a cake, music, decorations and firecrackers, though our sleep was disturbed, but we did enjoy the mood. There is a SBI ATM as well. The highlight of our stay was the ayurvedic therapies we enjoyed. Ginger spa had opened only 20 days prior to our visit and once we noticed the spa desk on entering the hotel,we decided to go for it. I personally recommend the special ayurspoorthi body massage, nethra tharpana and shirodhara. You can meet the ayurved doctor and chalk out your therapies. The rates for the above therapies for the two of us came to 7500 rs after discount and it\'s quite reasonable as compared to the other hi-fi spas.Do indulge if possible, the therapists are trained and experienced and put you at complete ease. In all a relaxed and enjoyable stay.We got the much needed break and rejuvenation and we would love to stay at Ginger in other destinations as well. More » « Hide
