the regal décor all over is just amazing in that it comes naturally, surprise is key to pleasure here. antiques/artifacts/ paintings…evening we had dinner under flaming torch on the classical folk songs; ‘manganiyaar/langa’…and we all took to fiber dance floor with finest wines being served. We have been to very many heritage resorts offering contemporary comforts but this stands above all those, much much above!—It indeed is ‘different’,God’s seemed to have gathered to bless this piece of land, with such an ambience that one can never take it off the mind and heart, moments become lifetime memories. [it is an oft –repeated for such write-ups but it really means, as I have ‘thank- you’notes from all my guests!
songs/dances/ treks etc
Overall experience, one having lived a fairy-tale..
Till recently, it was a personal home of an art connoisseur with one block of 13 rooms and three cottages and more than that he has big business of exports of handicrafts heritage items and for that he had a huge workshop employing over 100 people and a warehouse. It is thus more a home museum than a ‘retreat’/’hotel’—set in lush oasis.
When he turned it into a commercial entity they themselves surprised guests [mostly foreign buyers, their agents] found peace and happiness as reflected in extending their stay or repeat visits and also recommending it to their friends /relations abroad. We ourselves were hunting for a real god place and this came upon us suddenly and during our very first visit, my husband, Vijay shah, stayed back asking driver to go over and bring necessities. I found him restless as during entire week-end as in words of Oscar Wild, ‘expression is as necessary to him as leaves to black branches of tree’ and my husband is basically a poet…
Well, someone said, each one of us has a poet in oneself, this place evokes it.The place, according to my husband is poetry by itself. - But so ‘poetic’ that it can’t be described into words. To me, I too decided to camp as I wanted to see the attitude of staff, water pressure in baths, food preparation etc—all this for upcoming event in August 2007 where we would have our guests from Europe /US etc.
We thus did a deal for 6 days and hired the entire property and organized rides, folk songs/dances..etc
