Hogenakkal is a mesmerizing village where the 'Jeevanadhi' Cauvery falls from a height of about 20mtrs at various points, creating a bunch of falls and a visual treat. This was my second trip to this beautiful locale in a gap of 10 months and found it more better than the last one! Pictureseque stretch of roads, scenig hills and serene cauvery all adding to the beauty. Anything and everything about this small but very famous tourist place is told and told again. But I feel sad to write the present condition of this place, which sems to be detoriating every passing day. The maddening crowd, irresponsible administration and not-so-aware villagers are least bothered about the place being endangered. The cause is Pollution and pollution. The waterfall which once basked in its glory now is filled with plastic waste and stagnant dirt. One can see people performing last rituals (pinda) right beside the bathing place. Another washing clothes just beside that. Floating shops in parisals are a major attraction but nobody bothers to collect the plastic waste thrown into the river because of these shops. Hogenakkal claims of plastic free environment but its a biggest sarcasm! This place is full of plastic and waste. Hogenakkal....... where are you heading to???? The government collects about 30 rs from each vehicle for entrance and parking but seems to do least about the cleanliness here. If this continues then Hogenakkal's pride and glory may one day become history. Wake up before that.... More » « Hide

I hardlly knew about this place until I found about this from web and visited here on a weekend with my dear loving friends.Yercaud, rightly called as the poor man's Ooty is a right destination to spend a relaxing weekend. Far away from the terrific traffic and polluted parks of cities, a hill station that still retains the charm and simplicity, amidst the nature. Though its not a place where one can head for a rigorous sight seeing and go visiting places, its an ideal place where you can free yourself from the fast rushing daily life and laze at your wish. Its best visited between July-January, as told by the local people, but I happened to visit in March. Still it was good in its own ways though we missed a few scenic views. But not to forget this catchline.. 'as we opened our window panes, there where a group of clouds waiting to ne let in..' More » « Hide
