Food was reasonably good, though the prawn malaikari that we tasted in September 2011 had lost the sparkle we were hoping to rekindle! Sea Hawk is at one end of the beach at Digha, not too far away from the rustle and bustle and neither too close to the din. And this makes it a perfect location. More » « Hide

We had been visiting the town of Puri often during summer vacations, and Puri Hotel had been our choice. This summer, the food had considerably improved over the experience of past years, but the house-keeping was at a low. The day we checked in we entered a room that had linen which was either the ones used by the previous boarder or simply washed negligibly and dirty. We had to repeatedly ask for daily sweeping and cleaning of the toilets, as if these were issued answered only on request, and not a regular service. But the worst experience was the insolent behaviour by the front-desk personnel while we were checking out. Puri Hotel can boast of the advantage of its building being exactly parallel to the road that runs along the beach so that all sea-facing rooms from the ground floor to the seventh have a gorgeous view of the sea all the day round from the balconies. But they should understand that what counts above any other factor is behaviour of the staff with the boarders, and that this could either cement a long relationship or simply mar everything. Puri Hotel would be wrong if it thought that they were the only options -- personally, we would never return to this hotel again, ever. More » « Hide

It has been my wish since a graduate student in Fine Arts and then a Doctoral Research Scholar in Art History, to be able to see in person, the sculptures I had so far learnt about from photographic reproductions in books. Mahabalipuram is a quaint place and we reached reached easily over road from our earlier destination, Pondicherry. A small town huddling close to the historic sites, one only wonders why its tourist status isn't more brighter, in terms of a mor pronounced and active engagement from official authorities, including the Government as well as NGOs. The room was luxury at the rate provided - including the ac, the plush bed and the room corner mini-bar refrigerator! Room service was excellent, the front desk was extremely cooperative, and the overall service was smilingly delivered. Food was delicious, though a few dishes were a shade spicy to our taste, but that may be entirely personal preference. More » « Hide
