Panchgani/Mahabaleshwar are essentially good destinations, but it may take more than one trip to understand how to get the most out of them. Mahabaleshwar is beautiful and has charming activities like strawberry picking- however, it takes some time to realize how far from each other all the sights are - and for the outdoor enthusiast, treks/walks are not easily indentifiable (unless you are ok with walking on the road). Most people go \'point-hopping\' in cars, and this can create traffic jams - not something you want to run into during a vacation. We were initially surprised by the number of \'guides\' selling their services, but later we realized that it is difficult to actually find the so called \'points\' without a guide. There are however, a number of other activities one can do in and around Mahabaleshwar - paddle/row boating at Venna Lake, speed boating at Dhom Dam reservoir and paragliding are a few we did or saw. About the resort, which is a duplex bungalow, tastefully built and decorated, the overall experience was good. Our main reason for taking a bungalow was that we are a family with special food needs - thus the cook-cum-conceirge-cum-housekeeper on premise was able to cook food exactly according to our directions. The food is also \'homely\' to a fault, in the sense that the cook doesn\'t have time to prepare a \'feast\' even if you really want one (and are willing to pay). All you will get is a sabzee, dal (only one type everyday), rice and roti. But if this is what you want on a vacation - this is the place for you. You do get some simple breakfast (upma, poha) and snacks (pakoda). More » « Hide

Great activities, good food, and good entertainment. But the beach and the sea were extremely disappointing. Note that Fort Aguada Beach Resort does NOT have private beach access - you basically have to walk down to a public beach. More » « Hide

We had a magnificent time in this resort. We spent five days at the resort, and were charmed by... .. We had a magnificent time in this resort. We spent five days at the resort, and were charmed by the extremely warm and friendly staff, the river, the lake and the slow pace of the resort. It was of course hot in May, but the pool and lake were available to always cool you down. More » « Hide

We had booked the best cottage, which was nice from inside (not to be confused with luxurious), clean, etc. However, there was absolutely no landscaping in the resort, no activities, and no real notion of service. Overall, we had an okay stay because it served the purpose of having a comfortable place to sleep after trekking to the caves. But the resort itself is in no way a recreational place in itself.
