The main gated-property itself is very small. The 5 rooms are in straight row and the view from the verandah/window is not impressive. The rooms I thought were very dark even during day time. When the rooms are all occupied you could feel crammed in since property is not so large that you cannot sit far away some where. All the great views and spots are only when you walk out of the gate towards the plantations. Those views are good no doubt. There are sprawling tea estates and treks uphill towards a waterfall. When we went there (Jan) was no \'cafe with a view\' as their website photos show. Food was simple. Do not expect exotic stuff (no appams). Its simple malayalee food but delicious for sure. The only reason the resort deserves a recommendation is because of its location. Definitely not... .. The only reason the resort deserves a recommendation is because of its location. Definitely not picturesque, the thing in favour for this place is its proximity to the Tibetian settlement in Bylakuppe. The place is something else!!! it is almost surreal to see the grand tibetian monasteries in the Kodagu landscape. The drive from Kushalnagar to Bylakuppe is breathtaking, especially if it is a cloudy day. It makes you want to buy a bicycle and come there just so that you can take in the mountain air and the sprawling views. Another thing one must do here is to stop by (enroute to the Namdroling Monastery) in a restaurant called Olive and taste the tibetan fare they serve. The momos are delicious! There is ample scope for touristy shopping- tibetan bells, shawls, silk jackets, hats, scarves, T-shirts, buddha sculptures and hoardes of other stuff. Thats the only reason I gave a high rating on the culture parameter. The resort itself is no great shakes. The cultural programe they boast so much about is worse than the annual show performance put up by primary school students. It was pretty demented actually. It didnt feel anything close to a Kodagu experience! The girls were wearing ghagra cholis and doing steps from bollywood numbers!!! And there was a clown doing magic shows. Even the kids around did\'nt look interested. They have a good swimming pool though. Apart from this there is nothing much you can do within the resort. The rooms are okay...clean bathrooms. The lawns are very well maintained too if you are content to sprawl on them and just read a book. There are small hills surrounding the resort, so the view is not so bad. Food is like what u will get in a cheap city restaurant. For activities you can go to the Dubare Elephant camp for just a drive or for safaris. Since its monsoons now, the river too is swelling with rapids and we had a rocking time doing river rafting there!!! I will definitely be going to this destination again but staying in Veerabhoomi! Hopefully the website would have more home stays etc around Bylakuppe listed. I couldnt spot any in Bylakuppe but have heard that they exist. More » « Hide
