  Polaycad Bungalow, Coorg

We had a great holiday in Polaycad Bungalow - it is a very calm place to stay and if you are stressed out, you can really relax! Mr and Mrs Cariappa, the hosts were very nice people and they treat their guests to delicious Coorgi food and dessert (you will really enjoy the hot chocolate fudge made by Mrs. Cariappa).

Best Experience:

calm environment and fresh pure air
well maintained rooms
good food

  Nature Craft Homestay, Chikmagalur

Simple rooms nicely done, fantastic people, great food, moderately priced (at Rs 850 per day for adults all incl). The home is located about 8 km from Chikmagalur in the middle of a coffee plantation. We had a great time chatting with the host eating the lovely biryanis, etc. Our host Mr. Ansar planned our entire stay and the places to visit.

Best Experience:

Usually during dinner time when all the guests assembled at the common dining hall, we shared the days experiences over great food.

  Hidden Forest Retreat, Gangtok

This resort is one of the best ways to get a real feel of life in Sikkim, away from the main strip which is becoming more of a tourist hub. About 2 km away, it is a beautiful place, with an orchid nursery forming part of the resort. We had a lovely time, also because the owners are so warm and helpful.

Best Experience

Waking up in the morning to see the poinsettias on our
  window   sill
Drinking home-brewed chaang, the local drink
Georgie the dog, running into our room whenever he chose!

  Annapara Home Stay, Wayanad

Annapara is a romantic hideaway cocooned in a particularly beautiful corner of Wayanad. It was as cut off from the world as it could get. The moment I stepped into the estate (it sprawls over a whopping 375 acres) I was transported into an ethereal world. Whether it was taking in the breathtaking beauty of the surroundings of Vythiri Wilderness Trail, or soaking in the sights and sounds of Wayanad, trekking to the primordial Edakkal Caves or boating at the vast expanse of Pookote lake, my trip was more than just a run-of-the-mill holiday - it was an unforgettable experience.

  Arakal Heritage, Alappuzha

I stayed here for 5 days. It was really beautiful and the hosts were both kind and warm. I am not exaggerating when I say the food was delicious. The beaches were pristine with no one to either sell things or ask for anything. I wanted to get a facial, get a massage, go for a fishing excursion and ride an elephant. Anything I wanted to do, Abi (my host) arranged. It was perfect after my grueling 22 hour plane trip from the U.S. as I got very relaxed and rejuvenated. I plan to spend my honeymoon there next year.

Best Experience:

The food was fresh. I turned 50 and they made me a cake. The elephant ride was amazing as was the ocean trip into the Arabian Ocean.

  Graceful Homestay, Thiruvananthapuram

We arrived at Graceful Homestay after an excruciating round-about journey and a forced night in a Delhi hotel. We instantly felt it should be named "Grateful Homestay" because we were grateful from the moment we arrived for the welcome, the cleanliness, and the beauty that surrounded the Francis' home. Proprietor Giles Francis had actually made me feel comfortable from the moment I first e-mailed him and received a prompt, courteous response. The first impressions proved valid. Graceful Homestay is a home set in a garden among trees. As a home, there is no formal reception area but a comfortable living room and a porch filled with palm fronds and other plants. The decor is tasteful and eclectic and the food is wonderful.

Best Experience:

Talking to Sylvia Giles in the morning kitchen and learning how to make appams --I had the feeling that I was more than a faceless tourist checking in and out of a luxury resort that would quickly become a blur.
