Must visit place for its phenomenal architecture

The Adalaj Step-Well was built in 1499 by queen Rudabai. It is a five storied step well situated on the outskirts of Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The entire structure of step well consists of beautiful carved columns. Adalaj step well was used for the purpose of storage water in an arid region and other purpose was as a resting place for travelers during their long journey.

Dada hari vav

Built I 1499, by supervisor of Sultan Begada's harem. It has steps going down five levels, to small well. It is dry now. Going down, has beautiful pillars depicting crafts and of the era. Once you start going down, not only the place is very cool but eerie indeed.

Fine place but not so good

Place is OK, didn't find this place as great place to hang out. However to spend around hrs is OK with family picnic. Surrounded by a garden and temple aside to it. OK if you love to sit in ground for long else max 1 hour to spent. Water was stinky and cleanliness was f ...

Time stops for a moment here

Anyone who loves history and is travelling to Ahmedabad should definitely visit this place. The Adalaj step well is located slightly in the outskirts of Ahmedabad towards Gandhinagar. Having entered the step well one feels the vibrations of a bygone era in this fantastic water harvesting mechanism. This place is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India & Photography is allowed at this location. Entry is free & so is photography. The beautiful walls call for clicking some precious pictures that we would like to store forever. Do not miss coming here if you connect with deep mysteries of a bygone era.

Amazing Ahmedabad.

We were in Ahmedabad for 2 days & stayed in Lemon Tree Premier, The Atrium which is bang on the Sabarmati waterfront. In these 2 days we visited Sabarmati Ashram, Akshardham Temple, Adalaj Stepwell, Auto World Vintage Car Museum & the Utensils Museum but one activity that was the highlight of the visit was the heritage walk that starts from the Swaminarayan mandir in kalupur at 8am. This activity doesn't figure in most of the travel advisory but is a must do to get the charm & feel of Ahmedabad history.Foodies will love this place too because of the numerous eateries in this city other than the well know ones like Swati Snacks, Vintage Village, Vishalla etc, one should visit the road side stall on the university campus road for a round of bun, maska & chai. For those who are fond of non veg they can include the omelette along with the bun, maska.

A superb attraction as a tourist spot

It is a superb attraction located in the Adalaj village at a distance of approximately 19 km from Ahmedabad. It is a historical place built in around 1499 A. The. It is a step well built below ground and according you can feel the temperature go down by atleast 5 degrees from the ground level temperature. A must visit place at only half and hour drive from Ahmedabad.
