Ranked 3 of 25 sightseeing in Badami

The Agastya Lake is surrounded by hills and reddish sandstone temples. The waters of this lake are said to possess healing powers too. The sandstone rocks around this lake have gaps in them that act as pathways to climb up the nearby hill.

Bhuthanatha Temple is located on the northern side of the lake. On the eastern side of Bhuthanatha Temple is a small cave with a dilapidated statue of Buddha inside. All the caves of Badami face the Agastya Lake.

Lake near to Badami Caves !!

Lake near to Badami caves . The view of the lake and surrounding temples is beautiful from 3rd and 4th cave One can go close to the lake too, but swimming is not advisable as the water is not so clean.

Excellent view of the lake and the temple

The lake is situated at the bottom of the famous Badami cave temple complex. One can get a wonderful view of the lake from the top of the temple complex. The lake also has Bhoothanatha temple on the other side which looks half submerged in the lake water during rainy season. This gives an exotic view of the Bhoothanatha temple, lake and the cliffs behind the temple.

Most amazing rock cut temples in the midst of Agastya Tirtha Sarovar

Undoubtedly the most amazing rock cut temples i. e. Bhutnath group of temples amidst the breathtakingly serene and calm Agastya Tirtha Sarovar. Sunset from the cave temples was an experience of a lifetime! Do not miss the intricate Mahavira Jain carving inside a low lying rock! You have to actually crawl into the cave for it to reveal its magic!

Peace and Tranquility - Agastya Lake

After the trek up the hills at Badami Caves, the Upper Shivalaya , Lower Shivalaya and Bhootnath Temple complex, one must enjoy the sunset by the Lake. Respite to the tired legs and the scenic beauty around is so rejuvenating.

Relaxing

Relaxing walk around the lake in well maintained grounds and great setting of the Bhutanatha group of lake temple. Great for sitting around in the evening watching the monkeys and sunset.

Great place to sit and meditate

The Agastya lake is oval shaped and about 1/2 km in diameter. It is visible from the height of the Badami caves and is a good view. The lake has the Upper Bhootnath and Lower Bhoothnath temples which are very unique - but not in regular use anymore. The lake is used by local villagers to wash their clothes, in addition to the villages boys taking a dive. At Sunset, it is a good place to just sit, relax and meditate. Across the lake is the hill in which you can see the Badami Caves Temples. The complex is closed after 6pm and opens at 8am.
