As we took the guest room just to rest and whole day we were exploring Hampi. So not that much to say, the food was very nice and hygiene. We just freshen up and left to see elephant shower as it is very near to main temple of Hampi. Where still they offer prayers and do Puja morning and evening.
Three of us visited Hampi for a short trip. We reached Hospet early in the morning and were hounded by auto drivers to be taken to Hampi. After some haggling, we agreed to pay Rs 150 to get to Hampi. We were directly taken to Archana Guest House by the auto driver . . I don't know if that is some kind of arrangement between the auto drivers and the people who run the guest house, but we were fairly happy with the room showed to us. The bathroom looked alright and the bedding also seemed fairly decent. The family that runs the guest house was quite welcoming and we couldn't find ourselves saying no and looking at other options They initially quoted Rs 600 per night but agreed to let us have the room for Rs 550 per night for 2 days. After settling into the room, we all trooped in one after the other for a Bath. The shower wasn't in mint condition to say the least. We had to remove the knob to ensure that there was enough water flow for a Bath. On the second day, the water turned cold half way through my Bath. The room was fairly spacious and roomy for 3 people- an extra mattress was given for our friend. But the nightmare started at around midnight. Having walked loads in the day, we barely spoke after we reached the room and simply wanted to go horizontal. But like two hours into our slumber, we were rudely woken by BEDBUGS! While both my friends became bedbug slayers. It was all I could do to stay awake. There were no TVs or Cable options anywhere in the lodge. They promised free WiFi, but none of us could really avail it since the signal was always weak. The one redeeming quality was the view from the terrace where one can see the Tungabhadra flowing serenely. They also run a cafe and the food offered is quite decent, albeit a little pricey. We spent 300+ bucks on breakfast every morning. But that is also the overall rate of food everywhere else in Hampi The staff is essentially family and they are fairly prompt in delivering special requests like extra blankets or pillows, etc. Something worthy of mentioning is the fact that none of the restaurants or lodges provide normal drinking water- even though the mighty Tunga flows right there! I also tried a few restaurants close by- The melting pot deserves a special mention- mainly because of all the pot going around and our food (or at least half of the items we ordered) arriving a good one hour after we ordered it! The Green Leaf is a fairly decent restaurant, The Prince is best avoided unless you have a fetish for burnt food! Everything we ordered at the Prince was burnt- pizzas, burritos, you name it Archana Guest House doesn't really give you beyond the beds, blankets and the room . So its best you carry your own supplies of soap, shampoo, towels, And unless you have a real penchant for bedbugs, you can really look for better options.
