Athirappilly Falls Overview

Ranked 1 of 5 sightseeing in Athirappilly

Located 63 km from the city region of Thrissur is the Athirappilly Falls, which is also a popular picnic spot for the travellers because of the location and the 80 ft high waterfall. Laying in the Sholayar ranges this waterfall consists of two amusement parks in the nearby location by the name of DreamWorld and SilverStorm.

The Vazhachal Falls are also located near  the entrance of the Athirappilly Falls about 3 km away. The much talked about controversy related to the hydroelectric dam that was proposed by the state is also related to this waterfall.

The dam has been highlighted in several Indian movies directed by noted Tamil film director, Maniratnam, including Raavan that was mostly shot here, whereas Dil Se, Kannathil Muthamittal, Iruvar and Guru featured the waterfall in songs.

Indian Nigara

This is a must for every Kerala trip. Make sure to reach there before 5 PM. Be ready to walk about 2 KM down on a rough road. Wearing shorts and shoes will make you comfortable. Once you reach down, you will have a beautiful view of the fall. You can also have another view from top.

A must visit during monsoon time

We visited during pre-monsoon period and one can enjoy the force of Stroppily Waterfalls. We can also take bath. We stayed in "Lead Homestay" at Chalakudy and it was very good. You can also see Hanging Bridge" just like in San Francisco's Golden Gate bridge and also butterfly gardens. There is also a "Silver Storm" theme park.

Showering Waterfall

Very recently I have visited this waterfall. And it has relaxed and refreshed my mind to an extreme end. I have gone to the waterfall when there is lot of water. The above surface of waterfall is almost calm and quite, the sight from the top is very wonderful. But I am interested to stand down of the waterfall where the water drops from the waterfall comes towards me, wetting me. The coldness of water or something else which I can't define fills my mind with freshness. I am very much attracted to the beauty here. I am now frequently visiting this place in regular intervals in an year. It's one of the great waterfalls I have ever seen.

Beautiful waterfall with pleasant mist

The travel to this tourist spot is not hectic as the roads are good. It is easy to reach and good place to click photos. The way to this waterfall also has forest on both sides. This makes a feel of travelling through the forests. Good quality food is not available in this place. The way going to the bottom of the waterfall is not good for old people. It feels like trekking when going down to the waterfall. During the Rainy season that place will be like full of mist spraying from waterfalls.

A very nice place

This is one of the places to be visited if you have love for water falls or water. One can enjoy a lot in the water so better to carry clothes. There's a entry fee and also parking fee. Food was available but was OK. Have to walk for around 1km with a lot of steps.

Awesome place to visit

It's a majestic waterfall. One of the most beautiful waterfalls in India. The Athirapally falls join the Chalakkudy River after falling whopping 80 ft. The cool spray that covers a large area near the falls makes Athirapally a scenic location.Definitely it's a picnic spot for family and friends. I went with my office colleagues. We took bath on the river flowing above the falls. It was really cold.Food you would find outside the scenic area. Normally rice and variety, especially Kerala rice. You cannot bring food inside the scenic area. If you like water falling of small rocks and you like swimming then this is definitely your place. Evening scenic beauty is wonderful, marvelous whether during September-October.A must visit!!

Wonderful Waterfalls

Athirapally and Vazhachal are two amazing waterfalls of Kerala, which attracts lots of tourists over the year. Athirapally, situated 70 kms from Kochi. The straight fall of 80ft has made this waterfall a gorgeous one. Vazhachal is located 5 kms from Athirapally. It is a different kind of waterfall, which falls at a gentle slope in a picturesque location of dense and green forest. A must visit place near Kochi, in my view.
