Athmanathaswamy Temple, which was built during the 10th century, is a popular tourist attraction. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is known for its outstanding interiors and beautiful outdoor inscriptions. The walls and ceilings of this temple are replete with mural paintings that have been sketched between 17th century and 19th century. In addition, the beautiful temple roof is made of granite.

The murals on the walls and ceilings of Periya Mandapam and Sivanada Sannidhi depict the life of Saint Manickavasagar, who was a great devotee of Lord Shiva.
