Great experience and warm service in freezing Gangtok. In house food veg/non veg is available. Rooms are spacious and cozy. East side rooms have great view of mt. Kanchenjunga. MG road the most happening place is on 10 minutes walk. Owner Pintoo Jii is Very cooperative and polite nature. All staff members was very good. Decent place to stay with family.
I shortlisted a few Hotels after checking out the Trip Sites, Reviews and the Hotel websites followed by directly interacting with the Hotel staff. Friendly and clear communication with the Front office (Mr. Mingma) at Bamboo Grove helped in finalizing the Hotel. And my family of four had a very comfortable and pleasant stay at the hotel. Mr. Avowal was quite helpful and we did get a cared for' experience The location is reasonably good and close to Mall Road but the term 'short distance' in the hills gives a totally different experience due to the steep climbs .!! The evening stroll and shopping experience in Mall Road is the one we'll not forget very easily. Swachh Bharat ka inspiring example The approach to the hotel though has to be experienced to be believed and when you arrive suddenly in front of the Hotel having driven through the concrete block filled narrow roads. You'll realise why this Hotel is named so The room service tends to take time and you can feel the 'easy-lazy' holiday feel especially when you are waiting for the bed tea/coffee. It may suit many but can be slightly irksome when you are in the morning rush to venture out for sightseeing etc There are many places which the hotel assisted taxi but your trip to Gangtok can't be complete without a visit to Nathula pass. A days' trip by Hired Taxi for which one needs to submit the IDs /PP photos in advance or else be prepared for not getting the Permit from the Civil Dept Ask for any of the Kanchenjunga view rooms. I recommend the Attic room, though the views are different from each room !!! We didn't Dine extensively at the hotel but the Breakfast was well made and tasty. Stick to the Hotel options. Children and adults alike can binge on instant WAi-Wai noodles . (Forget Maggi/Top Ramen for a few days .! ). Waking up to see the Snowy peaks from your hotel window is a great feeling which adds magic to your experience. You can stare at the play of clouds within hours. Slowly building up and trying to cover up the snowy peaks in front of your eyes gradually The hotel ensured clean and crisp linen and the Washroom/Bath were clean and hygienic. And smooth flow of hot water ensured that you have a great Bath at the end of a tiring day !! Overall a very good travel destination. The Buddhist influence was very soothing and positive whenever you visit any of the Monasteries. Enough action for 3-4 days. And recommended to pack in a trip to Darjeeling for the normal traveller. Those who are fond of nature can venture deeper in all directions within Sikkim as all the destinations promised much more of the goodness of Nature Truly an unforgettable experience .!!
Three families decided to have a holiday in Sikkim. It turned out to be a wonderful adventurous experience travelling from Gangtok to North Sikkim (Lachen and Lachung). Based on availability of hotels and the reviews seen on the internet we chose Bamboo Grove Retreat in Gangtok, mainly because of its location not being on the busy and sometime noisy MG route. After all MG route was just a five minute climb down from the hotel (though some steep steps) Ms Ushering of the hotel helped us out with arrangements of further trips away from Gangtok and pointed us to a transport provider. The retreat lives up to its name with a small bamboo partition in the courtyard. The rooms are nice, clean with a fair enough attached washroom with running hot water and clean towels and linen Mr. Pintu Avowal has just taken over the hotel and he is a warm and friendly person. He runs a tight ship on the hotel staff and at the same time did his best to help us out with various tiny glitches in our programme The staff is extremely polite and really give a feel that you are in a warm surrounding of Sikkim. Food is excellent in the restaurant, but the cooks are a bit slow in responding to urgent hungry guests. Do try their rendition of the local Thukpa. They even got us some Italian pasta which turned out to be yummy, as our 10 year old companion polished off her plate. The stay at Bamboo grove is a nice experience. It is more a home than a hotel.
Had a tour to Sikkim last summer. It was a wonderful experience to live in this hotel. Hotel is clean and tidy. The rooms too are spacious. Gangtok is a awesome place to visit and this hotel made our visit very comfortable. Service is very good and the staff is also soft-spoken, kind and humble. The quality of food is good but the dine here would be a little costly. I would surely recommend everyone to have a stay here. But for food there are restaurants nearby which provide tasty food at affordable rates.
It was located in the heart of the city. The location of the hotel was convenient. They provide pick up and drop facility in the hotel. The staff was friendly, helpful and humble. The room which was allotted to me was neat, clean and spacious. There was the river view from the room. The housekeeping service was excellent. I stayed there for three days. The overall experience at this hotel was wonderful. They provide hot water facility twenty four hours in the hotel. The basic amenities were in working order. I did not have any issue in check-in and check-out procedure. I had food in the hotel. They provide delicious and tasty by quality wise and it was a bit expensive. They did not provide extra activity in the hotel. The hotel had parking area and a garden lawn in the hotel. The suggestion is that they should decrease the rates of the food. It was a family trip.
I had planned to go to Gangtok along with a few of my relatives in June and had made the hotel bookings, but due to some unforeseen reasons I had to postpone my trip. I had contacted the hotel and they had agreed to adjust the advance paid for the hotel in any of my future trip. During the festival of Chatth, practically everything was closed in Patna, this was when I planned this trip with a friend of mine . . We (me, my wife, my friend and his wife) decided to drive down to Gangtok. This was usually what we do. Our journey from Patna to Siliguri was great. Driving down the four way lane was simply awesome. Next morning we started for Gangtok. The road till the border of Sikkim (Rongpo) was good and after that we started to feel the neglect of the Sikkim Govt. Towards promoting tourism in Sikkim. Tourism was a major source of income for Sikkim and if the roads and such infrastructures are neglected who will recommend for a trip to Sikkim? After a treacherous road journey we finally reached our hotel in the evening. The first impression was disheartening. Only one room of the two good view of Super Deluxe room were provided. The other room was a simple room with NO VIEW. The excuse was that they were not available. Would Mr. Agarwal, the owner please explain as how and why did he confirm telephonic when I had spoken to him before reconfirming my booking? They had promised to change our rooms next day but It was not done. Room service was there but it was only one person who was the jack of all trade. From providing us with any service in the room to managing and also cooking in the kitchen. Everything and anything that we ordered had to be procured from the market. I would suggest Mr. Avowal to take some more personal interest in promoting his hotel/property. The location of the property was excellent and the biggest advantage was the parking space they have and the easy proximity to the famous MG Road. All said and done, do plan a trip to Gangtok and stay at Bamboo Groove Retreat. If you can compromise on your stay (Provided you get the Good View Facing Rooms) and the facilities you can have The Best View of the Khangchendzonga Range from your room. Another important thing that I would like to bring to the notice of the Sikkim Govt. Was to improve the basic infrastructures (roads etc. Required for developing tourism in Sikkim. I had seen lots of tourists from Gujrat and it must have been a harrowing experience for them to travel by road to other parts of Sikkim. I had a lovely holiday and would like to go again in the future
