Best for peace

Posted 22 Oct, 2015

I was here in Rumtek alone to search for peace in life, it is a Buddhist monastery located near Gangtok. I am here by train and by local transport. Stayed in Bamboo Resort, the resort looks good from outside, staff are less in number but service is fast, food I order here is tasty.

Peaceful stay surrounded by scenic beauty

Posted 29 Apr, 2015

The Bamboo Resort is located 30 minutes away from the hustle bustle of Gangtok. Which is great if you are looking for some peace and quiet to enjoy the natural beauty of Sikkim. The property is set amongst lush paddy and herb gardens. Do ask for the front facing rooms with the balcony for exquisite views of the mountains in the morning and city lights at night. The food is delicious, do have a traditional Lepcha meal at least once during your stay. The produce is fresh and preparation is fantastic. Under the able guidance of Mr. Suraj, the guests are whelked after and it almost feels like a homestay. The staff is courteous and service is good. The hotel also arranges for comfortable pick up and drop service to Bagdogra airport if requested for in advance. We had a great stay despite the harsh weather conditions owing to the current rainfall and tremors. Advisable to also take your guided tour services from the hotel itself. They can arrange for local sight seeing as well as trips to Tsongmo, Natu La and even North Sikkim. We had a great tour experience courtesy Mr. Tseten Bhutia who is an able guide and expedition expert. The services of the same were arranged by the hotel itself. Would gladly stay here again the next time I visit Sikkim.

Polite staff and good rooms

Posted 13 Jan, 2015

I have visited Sikkim in the month of October to celebrate our 3rd anniversary. The attraction of Sikkim is the monastery at Rumtek, which is away from Sajong Village and a long uphill walk from the Bamboo Resort. The staff are polite and food was good also rooms are good. One must visit this place.

1. The attraction of this area of Sikkim is the monastery at Rumtek, which is a good 6 - 7 km away from Sajong village and a long uphill walk from the Bamboo Resort. So hang on to your taxi/car! 2. The resort itself is as advertised: beautiful, serene, good view of Gangtok, lots of green and bamboo. 3. The building is lovely, the establishment is very clean and tidy with good arrangements for guests to sit outside and enjoy the open countryside. 4. We did our bookings through a travel agent, so cannot really comment on this parameter. 5. Service was just OK. No trained staff, initial problems in communication, proprietress aggressive with response to complaint, a take it or leave it attitude (\'you can go elsewhere\' was her comment). One got the impression that resort is frequented mostly by foreigners, so Indians are welcomed somewhat patronisingly. However, service improved after the initial fracas and we parted on friendly terms. 6. Room good, linen fine, but lighting needs attention. Difficult to read in the evenings. But lovely balcony to sit out and admire the view, particularly the twinkling lights of Gangtok at night. 7. Contrary to website write-up, variety of food disappointing (no pizza/continental food and exotic ferns/mushrooms/orchids etc). Indians beware: hotel management considers all Indians to be vegetarian, so if you are not, make it very clear in advance. But good coffee, brought from Europe. 8. Nothing much on offer. No advice forthcoming on neighbouring attractions and how to go about them. 9. Mountains of Sikkim are par excellence !
