Bankey Bihari Temple Overview

Ranked 3 of 13 sightseeing in Vrindavan

Bankey Bihari Temple was built in 1864 by Swami Haridas of the Nimbarka Sampradaya. The presiding deity in the temple is of Lord Krishna standing in the Tribhanga posture. This deity was originally worshipped by Haridas Swami under the name of Kunji-bihari. Later, the deity of Radha Rani was added to the temple.

This temple is thronged by devotees in the month of Sravana, which lasts from July to August. During this festival, on the main day of Jhulan Yatra, Lord Krishna is placed in golden swing. Unlike other temples, the curtains before the deity are raised and shut every few minutes. It is believed that if seen for longer time, the brilliant eyes of Bankey Bihari can make the devotees unconscious.

The Divine Place on Earth

The best place to encounter the eternal power, the Krishna on Earth is only Vrindaban. The basic place where you can find the peace of your heart. The place where the idol is self and best part is the eyes.

A must visit for its historical & religious signficance.

A visit to Vrindavan is incomplete without a trip to this temple. Though accessible by moving through crowded lanes, this time we found the crowd management to be much better allowing darshan to one's satisfaction despite crowds. The floral decoration inside was exquisite.Cleanliness outside the temple needs improvement.

Mesmerizing sight of bankebihariji

When you intend to have Bankebihariji's Darshan at Vrindavan, make sure that you reach the temple before 12 in the noon, since the temple gets closed after 12 till 7pm approx. The market outside is very crowded and Messy but won't disappoint you with yummy local food and desserts like lassi, peda, chaat etc.

The Vraj Keeper

No one knows what material is the idol, the priests told us it's none of marble, wood or metal. The Sevadar priests told us that the Lord is as soft as baby and needs a leg message every time the temple closes as he, the child God, gets tired standing. Large eyes make the idol more mesmerising and the huge courtyard is always has one or the other believers queuing up for the whole place impressively adorned with flowers known as Haveli. You have to see it to believe the man hours that would have gone behind it.You can buy your slot closest possible to the deity.

Main temple of Vrindivan

The Bankey Bihari Temple is the main temple of Vrindavan for which we visit the Vrindavan. The temple is too good to see, we feel that the lord krishna is with us when we reach the temple. We feel some extra ordinary feeling when we see the lord krishna in this temple.

The Prime attraction of Vrindavan

So the most of us starts Vrindavan Journey from here. The Bankey Bihari temple is situated at the center of Vrindavan. Surrounded with narrow streets. Very old architectural complex opens two times a day. One can have darshan either in morning time which closes at 12.00 pm in noon and the next darshan can be done after 4pm. During the weekends it is very crowded so to escape those crowded avoid festival or weekends. VIP darshan is also available. All kind of baggage are strictly prohibited and nearby you won't find any shops are stall to keep baggage though the shoe stalls are there but they don't keep your baggage.
