Beypore Beach Overview

Ranked 4 of 8 sightseeing in Coastal Malabar

Beypore Beach is situated on the banks of Chaliyar River in the Kozhikode district. This beach was one of the important fishing harbours and maritime centres of ancient Kerala. There is a boat building yard at this beach which is known for the construction of Uru, the traditional Arabian trading vessel.

Due to its ship building industry, the ancient Beypore Beach was sought after by the merchants coming from Western Asia. There is a 2 km long bridge built into the sea from the Beypore Beach. This bridge is made using big stones piled together to make a pathway into the sea. The Beypore Beach is situated around 10 km south of the main Kozhikode city.

The Beypore Beach can be reached from the Calicut International Airport, which is around 23 km away from this attraction. Tourists can also travel from Calicut Railway Station, which is just 10 km from the beach. Local transportation including bus, auto rickshaws and taxis are available from main city centre and station to reach this beach.

The sun shining sea

Beypore is a must see location in Malabar. The beach here is wonderful and it is the place where River Chaliyar joins the sea. You must wait for the sunset if you are planing to visit here. You can see a type of Dolphin if you are lucky. Light house is another attraction. There is two bridges having 2 or 3 kilometers in to the sea. And a Jhankar service connecting Beypore and Chaliyam which costs only below 20 for a car. You should not miss the seafood in Beypore and Forest depot too.

Beypore beach, an interesting picnic spot in Kozhkode

Beypore is a must watch destination while you visit Kozhode. The beach has some interesting offers to please a visitor. It is just 10 km from the Kozhikode city and you can reach by bus or taxi within 20 minutes.Pulimuttu (Stone Pier): Stone laid down into the sea about 2 km long. It is a wonderful experience to walk through the 'stone platform' across the sea. Beautifully constructed, decorated with plenty of lights and well preserved. Good seating arrangements are there to watch the waves and surroundings. Best time to visit here is early morning or late evening.Dolphin's Point: It is at the terminal point of the 'Pulimuttu'. Watching the beauty of the Arabian sea, walk that pathway approximately 2 km long. Sitting on the rock/stones, you can watch the dolphins playing in the sea. I personally select the Pulimuttu and Dolphin's Point as the biggest attraction of Beypore. During this walk, you can also watch the locals catching fishes and mussels (Kallumakkaya in Malayalam). Observing them is interesting.
