Beypore Beach Overview

Ranked 6 of 19 sightseeing in Kozhikode (Calicut)

Beypore is a small village situated at the mouth of Chaliyar River, at a distance of 10 km to the south of the Kozhikode town. Previously, it was known as ‘Sultan Pattanam’ during the reign of Tipu Sultan and as ‘Vaypura’ by the locals. The Beypore Port has a historical significance as it was one of the ports where trading commenced between Asia and the Middle East and was considered an important maritime and trade centre. This village was also popular as a centre for shipbuilding, meeting the demands of the merchants from Western Asia and mainly constructed traditional ships like the Uru or Arabian trading vessel. The 1500 year old tradition of shipbuilding is still carried on by the locals.

The main buyer of these ships are the Arabs and the ships are built as per the needs and specifications of the buyers. Tourists can enjoy the art of shipbuilding in this village by observing the manner in which the Uru takes shape with minimal sophistication in production. Discipline and work ethics are observed by the whole team that enable them to work as a team and execute the highly intricate woodwork to perfection with their alert minds and deft fingers.

Sunset @sea bridge

Its a good place to see sunset. There is a 1km long see bridge. You can walk till the end. Also there is another parallel bridge on the other side. Beypore is 12km from Kozhikode town. There is regular bus service to this place.

A beach where you can spot live Dolphin jumps

A beach where you can walk about one kilometre into the sea, and from there you can spot live Dolphin Jumps(Depends on your luck). Head out in the early morning, when the sea is calm.A place famous for its ship building skills, they have lot of ship building centres, where huge wooden ships are built.

One of the best beaches I have been to. Best time to visit is either during sunrise or sunset. Nice atmosphere around. There's nice breeze in the evening which is just calming.

A beautiful beach with lot of historical importance

Beypore Beach, vast and clean is worth visiting to spend evenings. Beypore which was once a port city where ships from foreign countries used to come for trading and also the ship building yard of South India. The beach is situated at the end of Chaliyar River and a beautiful Marina, fishing harbour and Kadalundi estuary are art attractions nearby. Evenings are moderately crowded and kids can indulge in lot of activities here.

Crowded Beach

This beach is very good but not the best or exceptional as portrayed on websites. I visited Kochi mainly because I saw photos of this beach on Facebook. It shows nice lights in photos but in reality, they are broken. It is not maintained. It has a lot of crowd. A lot of noise is there.
