Bhagvan Mahavir Government Museum Overview

Ranked 18 of 22 sightseeing in Cuddapah

Bhagvan Mahavir Government Museum was set up by the government of the state to preserve the sculptures and artefacts of historical significance. The museum was established in 1982 with the assistance of a Jain businessman. The site possesses icons and structures made from limestone and granite which bear inscriptions belonging to the ancient period.

The structures present in the museum were found during the excavation in Cuddapah and the adjoining areas. The idols of Lord Ganesha, Lord Hanuman, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva are among the excavated idols that date back to the period between the 5th and the 18th century. Apart from the idols, coins belonging to the period of the Vishnukundins, Qutub Shahis, Satavahanas, Bahmanis, Mughals and the Ikshawakus are also displayed in the museum. Travellers can also find paintings and weapons such as knives and sword of the ancient period.

Temple of Jains

It is a temple of Jains and it is about 6kms from main bus stand and 9kms from city railway station. Books and money is donated for every year, for poor children. This temple is well designed with mirror, autos of local is available from bus stand. Old priests as well as guru can be seen here sitting and giving blessings to people. I finally advise travellers to get blessings from god Mahaveer by attending to this temple.
