Bhairon Temple Overview

Ranked 1 of 6 sightseeing in Katra

Bhairon Temple is located at a distance of 1.42 km from the Bhawan. The temple is situated at the highest point of the adjacent hill at an altitude of 6,619 ft. This temple also involves a steep climb which can be undertaken by foot, ponies or palanquins.

It is believed that the journey to Mata Vaishno Devi is not complete without the darshan in Bhairon Temple. According to the legends, Bhairon Nath was killed by Vaishno Devi and while seeking an apology, was given a boon of being the last link of the pilgrimage.

Darshan inside Bhairon Temple is also in the rock form. It is believed that when Mata killed Bhairon Nath, his head fell at this place while his body remained at the entrance of the holy cave.  There is also a Havan Kund at the temple, whose ashes are considered to be sacred.

Visit to Bhairon Mandir Katra

It is good to visit this temple which is located at a higher height vis a vis Bhawan. The arti hours are morning 7 to 8. 15 am and 7 to 8. 15 pm evening every day. Bhaints are available at the Shrine Board shop at reasonable rate of Rs. 20/- It is 1. 75 km from the Main Bhawan about 55 minutes journey on walking. Visit arrangements are good. Pony riders usually overcharge the visitors and there is no enforcement. They refuse to go if you offer them the fixed rate. J & K Govt and Shrine board should do something about it. There is no arrangement for filing a complaint if they demand more money from a tired pilgrim.

Small temple with a nice view!

The temple is situated 3. 5 km uphill from Vaishno Devi shrine. The hike is too steep. Travel by foot is not advisable unless one is too fit. Take a pony from Vaishno Devi shrine to Bhairon Temple and then to Sanjichhat (bargain and settle for Rs. 500 max. ) You would love the thrilling Horse ride and the view.

Beautiful temple and worth visiting

Yes it is worth visit and paisa vasool because once we enter to take the darshan it forgets all the pains. There should be limited horses as people can walk safely. The horse riders must not forces every person to sit upon. The best time for visiting is November, do not carry too much of luggages just carry sweater and some sweet items like laddoos, rasgullas, etc which gives strength while walking when we get tired. I would suggest by going through the horse, do not carry heavy luggages.

Good temple and worth visiting

Since lots of tourists visit, very less arrangements are made here compared to the main temple. It is three km from the Vaishno Mata Temple. The hill top view is very nice. It is worth visiting.

Pleasant and comfortable

Shree Bhairon Baba is situated on big steep height of the hill just above of the Mata Bhawan. We along with family climbed on foot and performed darshan peacefully. However it was raining continuously, pleasant and comfortable. The meal facilities was appreciable. Most beautiful scene and sight at night could be seen.

One should visit Bhairon temple along with Devi darshan

We were told the Bhairon Temple visit and dharshan of Bhairavnath is must when we have darshan of Maa Vaishno Devi. It is on the top of the hill and is about 2. 5 km above the Maa temple. One can go by walk or by Horse ride, The route is steep and is in secured manner and it is worth to see.
