Paintings and shelters which are 30, 000 to 1 lakh years old

It is very easy to reach this place and the way is too serene in the rainy season. This place is situated in the Ratapani Wildlife Sanctuary on the Windchill range of mountains. You'll find some amazing shelters and rocks. These rocks have paintings on them, from the stone age. Paintings describe animals of that time and other gestures such as dance, wars, etc .. No food is available at the site. There is an MP tourism guest house and a few other restaurants/dhabas some 2 kms away near the highway entrance.I would certainly recommend this place for anyone with interest in history, art, mountains or other natural getaways.

For a slice of history and anthropology

These ancient rock carvings in the Bhimbetka Caves are of great interest for the history or anthropology minded visitor. Very interesting site, less than 50 kms from Bhopal but location is rather secluded and the approach road is not good. The site also requires better maintenance.
